Aging in the lumber spine. III. L5.

l5. Ericksen MF. The fifth lumbar vertebra, like the other units of the lumbar spine, shows a significant trend toward lowering and broadening of the body with age. Hypoplasia of L5 and Wedging and Pseudospondylolisthesis Hypoplasia and posterior wedging of the fifth lumbar vertebra were seen in 22 patients (Figs 15), all presenting with bilateral spondylolysis at L5, accounting for 45.8% of all patients with bilateral spondylolysis at L5. Of these 22 patients, there were 14 men and 8 women with a mean age of 39.75 years (age range, 2355 years).

  • AbstractIntroductionCase ReportDiscussionA 35-year-old man was struck by a car on his right side and presented with paraparesis of both lower extremities. Radiographic examination revealed multiple transverse process fractures and anterior displacement of L5 on S1. Computed tomography revealed a bilateral anterior facet dislocation of the fifth lumbar vertebra on the sacrum. MRI showed rupture of the posterior ligamentous complex. In vitro study results showed sufficient hydroxycarbonate apatite layer formation occurred for P20B80 in1 day, for P10B90 in 3 days, and for P5B95 in 5 days after soaking in SBF. For the rabbit lumbar spine posterolateral fusion model, the autograft group recorded a 100% fusion rate with levels significantly higher than those of P20B80 (29.4%), P10B90 (0%), and P5B95 (14.3%), with
